Hevel
$165.00
Hevel explores the quiet vastness of the western landscape with sage, clouded skies, and open space as a metaphor for the ephemeral. The three black circles hovering, each trailing smoke, reference the Hebrew word hevel which often translates as “vanity” or “meaningless,” more accurately means “vapor” or “smoke.” I became obsessed with the translation after grieving my grandma and turning to Ecclesiastes (like pouring gas on fire, oops). This painting meditates on the transient, intangible, and elusive weight of things, like loved ones, that can't be held too long.
