In this painting, eerie yet composed figures of plague doctors with antlers and horns of southwest animals roam the vast red landscapes of Moab, their presence both otherworldly and grounded in history.

The monoliths that punctuate the scene, evoke the strange discoveries of 2020 and the sense of uncertainty that defined the era. Yet, I want this to be a painting exuding mystery and not fear—an acknowledgment of isolation, transformation, and the way the past lingers. Living in a rural home, I channeled solitude into imagery that speaks to resilience, adaptation, and the surreal overlap of history and personal experience.
