ASLD Flagpole Project
2022 Grant Recipient for Denver Arts & Venues "P.S. You Are Here" stipend.
PSYAH projects build civic engagement, honor heritage, beautify neighborhoods and enrich communities to bring vibrancy to our neighborhoods and downtown.
My specific flag along with 11 others were each commissioned through Art Students League of Denver. This flag highlights the history and future importance of Denver’s watersheds and water supply. I created the piece which at first glance draws the viewer in with an large amount of negative space with a seemingly ‘ripped’ or ‘divided’ look- an appearance that opposes what flags usually stand for. But the design is a deliberate, transposed Google terrain view of Denver’s watersheds of the South Platte River, its confluence with Cherry Creek, and two corner lakes at the Denver Zoo. The four marigold borders represent Federal Blvd (west), Colorado Blvd (east), 52nd Ave (north), and Colfax Ave (south).
