Living in a rural part of Colorado, I sometimes stumble across shed antlers out on the acreage- little remnants of wildlife that feel like special gifts from the land. Lunar Offering draws a bit from that experience, combining it with my love of doing surreal landscapes. I’ve also always admired Georgia O’Keeffe’s use of animal skulls and antlers as floating forms; weightless and symbolic. In that spirit, I painted Lunar Offering as a quiet ritual, using surreal composition and subtle contrast to explore space between the grounded and the sacred.
