Where It Was Left imagines an unlikely resting place—a shed deer antler nestled in a bed of jumping cholla, beneath a wide sky and distant mountains. Inspired by my experience finding antlers in the scrublands near where I live, I began wondering: where wouldn't a deer shed one? What if the location felt improbable, even a little painful? Despite the implied tension between the sharp cactus spines and the fragile antler, the painting isn’t meant to disturb, but rather invite curiosity—just a quiet mystery, left behind in an unexpected place. It’s a gentle reflection on how strange beauty can be found in the in-between spaces.
